The Gleaner has been publishing newspapers since 1834. The library and archive present a rich source of information and a valuable national treasure.

What is available online?
The online database contains more than 970,000 historical newspaper pages from The Gleaner. The full-page newspapers, dating back to 1834, are searchable by keyword and date, making it easy for you to quickly explore historical content. Visit gleaner.newspaperarchive.com
Can I visit the library to conduct research?
Yes. It’s at 7 North Street. Open to the public Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 3:30 pm.
What is the cost?
A library pass is $500 and covers the first hour of research. Each additional house costs $1000. Additional costs for printing/photocopying.

Are archival photos available online?
yes. The Gleaner Library Online Store has photos and pages that can be ordered in electronic and printed formats straight from the Gleaner Archives to customers anywhere in the world. Visit thegleanerstore.mycapture.com
Can I buy a back issue of a newspaper?
Yes. Limited copies are available on a first come first serve basis. Original newspapers dating back to 1975 are available for sale.
Watt does it cost to buy a back issue of a paper?
Papers up to three months old are sold at the current rate printed on the front page. Three months and older attract a surcharge.
